One of Shelby's projects was a children's book about Shelby dog, Kate & Nick. The story is about Kate & Nick's journey to find Shelby and bring her home. The story tells about Shelby learning to paint with her paws in her new home.

This humorous story delights children while they learn about caring for and loving a pet that no one wanted, and how Shelby learned to paint. It was written by Sally Bloss and Dennis Doerr. They both traveled throughout NYS; Dennis telling the story, and Sally showing how Shelby paints.
